Global renovation of the Cité Mixte Le Corbusier
The adaptation of the Cité Mixte Régionale Le Corbusier is in line with current issues of reinvestment and maintenance of the built heritage, for which it is necessary to invent new architectural devices. The objective is to extend the life of a remarkable building.
"Memory is an ever-present phenomenon, a place lived in the eternal present; history is a representation of the past." Pierre Nora, Les lieux de mémoire.
Memory plays with presence and oblivion, remembrance and expectation. Here the prefabricated panels, the grid of the facades, the presence of concrete, the mosaics decorating the ground floor posts, constitute the traces of a useful history. It is from this language that we wish to announce a future.
This project of reappropriation highlights the construction of a collective memory through architecture: the architectural project to build the history to come. It is in this sense that we have built our proposal. We are not eulogising a lost architectural object, we are reconstructing with the memory of the past and with the tools of our own modernity.
"The idea of modernity is nevertheless that of a continuous dimension where it is clear that the past and the future coexist" Baudrillard, J. & Nouvel. J., Les objets singuliers. Architecture and philosophy
The modern architectural heritage necessarily refers us to the well-known specificities that constitute it. The choice of materials used, the design, the rhythms and sequences of the structural frames, the proportion of the volumes, the orthogonality of the composition, the assumed horizontality of the entrance sequence, all these elements of language bear witness to the assimilation by post-war architecture of the major points of modern architecture formulated by Le Corbusier. These are characteristic elements, guaranteeing the coherence and specificity of the building, and capable of generating the beginning of a formal response.
